FortisAlberta has joined in partnership with Creative Airdrie to promote the work of local artists in the Airdrie area while helping to deal with a vandalism issue on utility boxes. Five artists’ works will be selected and turned into giant shrink-wrap polymer canvases that are applied (similar to wallpaper) around five FortisAlberta switching cubicle boxes in Airdrie.
All artists need to do is submit a previous work in a high resolution jpeg format to info@creativeairdrie.ca no later than Sept 12, 2012.
“This is similar to the Art in Motion submission process,” explains Sherry Shaw-Froggatt, Vice Chair of Creative Airdrie, “ all we need is a good quality photo of the work to turn it into a 3D piece of public art. We encourage youth to participate as well.”
FortisAlberta will narrow the choices down to 12 and the public can then vote on their favourite by visiting the FortisAlberta Airdrie office at 15 Kingsview Road SE (7:30 – 4:30, M-F) or by going online to creativeairdrie.ca and viewing the images. Voting will take place September 14 – 30 to coincide with ARTember.
FortisAlberta is “wrapping” 100 boxes across their service territory; Airdrie is the only city involving local artists. “Creative Airdrie approached us to team up and feature the work of local artists. We both win – Creative Airdrie and FortisAlberta while creatively addressing the vandalism of some of our facilities,” says Tom Janzen, Manager of Asset Maintenance for FortisAlberta.
