2nd Awesome Airdrie Submissions Now Being Accepted

The Awesome Airdrie committee is getting ready to give away another $1000 cash to the most awesome idea. All anyone has to do is think of something awesome they want to do in Airdrie.
“That “awesome” can mean anything that can be achieved or at least started with $1000,” says Esau, “and is ideally something that will benefit our community, helps start a business or a just a really awesome idea.”
The cash is given with no strings attached, we just ask to be kept in the loop on how the idea comes to fulfilment,” says Leona Esau, Awesome Airdrie chair. Awesome ideas can now be submitted online at www.creativeairdrie.ca or www.awesomeairdriefoundation.ca. The deadline for submitting an awesome idea is March 4, 2012. Submissions from the first pitch in 2011 can be resubmitted.

Ten trustees are required to each donate $100 to make up the $1000 prize. Five are currently signed up. Gary, Lock, Keith Wilkinson, Sandi Christensen and Pat Cashion were so impressed with the first pitch session they offered to become trustees on the spot.

“I decided to become a trustee for Awesome Airdrie after listening to a father’s story about how his son prepared for the pitch session, how he and his brother conduct themselves at the events they perform at and how proud he was of his children; it told me how important community and family are – so it was easy to participate in an event that inspires awesome people in Airdrie,” says Trustee Gary Lock.
Keith Wilkinson was equally excited, “The difference my $100 could make to someone with a vision far exceeded my expectation. I encourage anyone to get on board and make Airdrie truly awesome.”

Supporting Local Airdrie Musicians (SLAM) won the first pitch and has already put their $1000 to work. SLAM representative Jay Stoudt said his bandmates from Steady the Wheel have agreed to donate $100 and have one trustee for the March Awesome Airdrie event. “We all remember the costs we faced starting out. Taking a chance and paying out of pocket was indeed a risk which could have failed. Now that we are established, we would like to help someone else see their idea through without the financial burden.”
The trustees are looking for 5 more awesome citizens or businesses to step up and commit $100 each, four times a year to coincide with the quarterly call for awesome ideas. All that is required of a trustee is to vote on submissions and judge at the pitch party. Interested trustees are asked to contact Leona Esau, Awesome Airdrie Chair at 403-948-8800 ext 8769. “

The finalists will be announced March 9 and four pitches will be made to the trustees March 21. A highlight of the evening will be performances by members of SLAM.
