Airdrie Rotary Festival of Performing Arts coming in 2012

Private music teachers of Airdrie were recently approached by the Alberta Music Festival Association. AMFA had a desire to initiate a classical music festival in our community that would develop musical talents. With a municipal population base exceeding 40,000 residents and Market base in excess of 170,000; the City of Airdrie would be an ideal location.
Given its population and market base, it would likely surprise many that the closest Festivals to Airdrie reside in Calgary or Olds. Most Airdrie teachers elect to have their students perform in the Olds Festival as it is considered a teaching festival. For this reason volunteers’ formed the not-for-profit society The Airdrie Rotary Festival of Performing Arts with the purpose to provide more participation and performance opportunities to residents in both Airdrie and Rocky View County.
By hosting this festival irdrie becomes eligible to be included with the  36 Communities throughout Alberta to recommend students to Provincials. Each province throughout Canada sends their top performers to a National Festival. It is anticipated this inaugural event could potentially host approximately 700 participants and become an integral part of the area Arts & Culture Community. The Festival is set for April 23 – 26, 2012 at Bert Church Theatre, Genesis Place and Airdrie Alliance Church. Plans incude a benefit concert
